The second grade class from Lowell South Elementary in Princeton just finished up their weather unit and they have been learning about fractions.

I started off showing the class how the seasons work with respect to the tilt of the Earth. Most of the students were aware that the planet Saturn has been visible on clear nights.

I finished up with storm chasing video from Gibson County.

14 News Chief Meteorologist Jeff Lyons says a cold front to our west will bring widespread moderate to heavy rainfall over the weekend.  Showers and a few imbedded thunderstorms will move into the Tri-State before midnight and will continue through Saturday and Sunday.

Total rainfall of 2-3" appears likely, and this may cause some localized flooding and also prolong flooding conditions along the Wabash and Little Wabash Rivers.

Work remains, but euthanasia rate down for Gibson County Animal Services

Work remains, but euthanasia rate down for Gibson County Animal Services

Gibson County Animal Services says it has reduced the euthanasia rate for animals that are put down because they’ve run out of time or space at the shelter.

According to our media partner, The Princeton Daily Clarion, the shelter had to put down 24 animals in 2011 due to time and space limits. Last year, just two animals were euthanized because of space issuess.

Sickness and aggression remain the primary problem for animals that are put down.  Last year, more than 200 were killed because of illness or injury.  About 30 percent were euthanized because they were aggressive or feral.

What to do if you find an injured or baby animal

What to do if you find an injured or baby animal

Every spring, kind-hearted Hoosiers “rescue” an injured or seemingly abandoned baby wild animal and try to care for it.

The DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife has one thing to say: Don’t do it.

“Most baby animals are not abandoned,” said Michelle Cain, wildlife information specialist with the division. “Many animals leave their young alone when searching for food and come back to them throughout the day. They also use this as a way to deter predators, as a predator may follow the mother back to its young.”
