Know a senior who deserves recognition?

Lt. Governor Becky Skillman is accepting nominations for the 2012 Golden Hoosier Award. The award, created by Lt. Gov. Skillman in 2008, acknowledges Hoosier seniors for their lifetime of service and their commitment to helping improve the quality of life in their communities.

Hoosiers are encouraged to nominate outstanding seniors, who are 65 years of age or older who have volunteered at least three years. Guidelines and the nomination form are available on the Lt. Governor’s website at www.lg.in.gov.

A completed nomination form is required. All application materials should be submitted together and must be postmarked by June 15, 2012.

Sheriff's office no longer accepting unused/expired drugs

Effective immediately, the Gibson County Sheriff's Office will no longer be accepting any unused or expired drugs at the office.  However, drugs may be taken to the State Police post in Evansville located on Highway 41 just South of the Gibson/Vanderburgh line.

Waylon Schenk named head football coach at Princeton

Former Bosse High standout Waylon Schenk has been approved as head football coach at Princeton High.  He was a teacher and offensive coordinator at Princeton since last year.

Schenk takes over Blair Hrovat, who resigned last month after two seasons as head coach. He played on Bosse’s 1995 sectional champions and later served as a Bulldogs' assistant under Andrew Weinzapfel.

He'll face a big task.  Princeton hasn't won a varsity football game since August of 2009, a streak that reached 29 in a row last year. 

Students get first look at new Gibson Co. school

GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE)- Gibson School Corporation will be opening a brand new school building for students in the fall.

The official open house for the new high school doesn't take place until summer, but on Tuesday morning students got a first look at where they'll be attending classes next year.

"You walk in here and you get goosebumps," said  student Raelynn Thompson.

"I came in here completely open minded and I did not expect to see this huge gym," said student Brock Kolb.

Gibson Co. cracking down on unkempt homes

GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE)- Gibson County Health Department is sending a warning to property owners on Tuesday that they are cracking down on unkempt homes that pose a threat to public health.

Officials at the health department tell 14 News they were charged by the board of health to take a look at homes around the county that were unsafe, and say many of them had been the site of meth labs.

Administrator for the health department Jennifer Schatz says they are currently looking at around a dozen houses.

Princeton will choose between two sewer increases

Brace yourself, Princeton.  What you're paying for sewer services is about to go up.

Bills could jump more than 50 percent by July, following a rate study presented Monday to the city council.

The sewer departmenthas been operating in the red for awhile and city leaders say they need to remedy that.

Sneak peek at new Princeton High School

Here's a look at the brand  new gymnasium and one of the hallways inside the soon-to-be-opened Princeton High School.  Tours are being given to the media today and 14 News' Gibson County reporter Kendra Whittle is there.  She says graduation will be held inside that new gym.  Watch for her report on 14News tonight.
