Rocking the rodeo in Gibson County

Rocking the rodeo in Gibson County

The Indiana High School Rodeo Association is hosting it's first rodeo of the season this weekend at the Gibson County Fairgrounds. 

Three different shows will feature several styles of riding including bull riding and steer wrestling.  

The event is an opportunity to get younger children interested in the sport.

The first show starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and again at 7 p.m. Sunday's events start at 2 p.m.

Nominate your community for USI’s Community Legacy Award

USI’s Historic Southern Indiana will recognize a southern Indiana community for its outstanding achievements in preservation, enhancement, and promotion of its distinctive heritage with the 13th annual Community Legacy Award. With the award, Historic Southern Indiana seeks to strengthen the quality of life for residents of and visitors to southern Indiana by paying tribute to excellence in standards of community development.

The Community Legacy Award is open to communities in all southwest Indiana counties. There is no limit on the size of the community who wish to apply for the award.

If you've been downtown Princeton, you've probably noticed all of the renovations taking place at the former Greek's building.

It saddened many residents to see it closed after being on the square since 1906.  The candy store and restaurant was extremely popular in it's heyday and one of it'scustomers was the man who would become famous as Wendy's owner Dave Thomas.

Toyota gives back over $1 million

Toyota Indiana’s philanthropy program will award more than $60,000 to area nonprofit organizations this month, bringing the total donated by the company this year to more than $1 million dollars.

Gibson County recipients of the grants include: Gibson County CASA, Gibson Southern High School, Holy Cross School, Princeton Area Dollars for Scholars, Princeton Daily Clarion (Newspapers in Education) and  Wood Memorial High School.

Family Video collecting movies for troops

Family Video stores, including the Princeton location at 1414 West Broadway Street, are collecting movies for troops overseas. 

"Movies for the Troops 2012", is designed to entertain the members of our armed forces stationed around the world.  Last year, they were able to donate over half a million movies donated by families.  This year’s goal is two million.

Fundraisers planned for Ft. Branch girl battling inoperable cancer

Hailee Cunningham, the four-year-old daughter of Rick and Rachel Cunningham of Fort Branch, has been diagnosed with inoperable cancer.  Hailee has been at Riley’s Hospital in Indianapolis for the last two weeks and will probably need to remain there until they have more answers and can figure out a treatment plan.
