A Patoka man and his companion were arrested early Thursday morning after state police say they left the scene of an accident near Tri-State Speedway.

It happened on C.R. 1025 South, just west of U.S. 41.  When emergency personnel arrived they say they found a 2011 Chevrolet passenger car had left the roadway and struck a telephone pole, but no one was around the vehicle.

While searching the area, a trooper found Danny Joe Gatewood, 28, and Christina Pegram, 22, both from Patoka, hiding in a ditch approximately ¼ mile west of the crash.
