Everything you need to know about Haubstadt Sommerfest 2013

Everything you need to know about Haubstadt Sommerfest 2013

You'd be hard pressed to find a smaller town with a bigger party.  The 2013 Haubstadt Sommerfest will be this weekend, June 20, 21 and 22. The festival features a parade, 5k race, rides, games, local food booths and what organizers call "Southern Indiana’s Finest Bierstube".

This year’s festival theme is “Community Spirit.”

In addition to supporting annual gifts for scholarships, local infrastructure improvements and youth sports, proceeds from this year’s festival go towards the Haubstadt Library.

A new library is currently under construction at the corner of Gibson and Main Streets in downtown Haubstadt. The Haubstadt Sommerfest, INC. donated $50,000 to purchase property for the library in 2010, and this year, they hope to raise money for technology, furnishings and landscaping for the building once it is completed.

Carnival rides and food vendors are rolling in for the Fort Branch Community Pride Festival. The festival starts Thursday and runs through Saturday.

Officals say the community wanted the festival to be more like a real carnival, which meant carnival rides.

A merry-go-round and old favorite, The Scrambler, are just a few of the attractions this year.

And if you've got some pipes, the Fort Branch Idol competition might be for you. The winner receives $150 grand prize!
