First new cabins at Camp Carson since 1940s to be dedicated

YMCA Camp Carson will dedicate two new cabins this Saturday.

The new cabins are the first that have been built there since the early 1940s when the camp first opened.

The dedication celebration begins at 11 a.m. and will be followed by a light lunch.

Camp Carson is located at 2034 Outer Lake Road in Princeton.

Organizers say four of the cabin donors will be present, some having flown in from across the country.  The first camper from 1940 will also be present.

Community Pride Festival rolls into Fort Branch

Carnival rides and food vendors are rolling in for the Fort Branch Community Pride Festival. The festival starts Thursday and runs through Saturday.

Officals say the community wanted the festival to be more like a real carnival, which meant carnival rides.

A merry-go-round and old favorite, The Scrambler, are just a few of the attractions this year.

And if you've got some pipes, the Fort Branch Idol competition might be for you. The winner receives $150 grand prize!

Law enforcement officers in Gibson County will honor a man who served long before their time in a special ceremony to be held 100 years after he died in the line of duty.

Princeton Police Officer Harrison Clement Hitch was killed in the line of duty on May 11, 1913 while attempting to arrest the ex-husband of a woman at her house.  When Officer Hitch arrived, he found the man was armed and while trying to get him to surrender his weapon, the suspect fired.  Officer Hitch was struck by three rounds, but was able to return fire, wounding the suspect in the arm before staggering out to the front porch where he died.
