SWIRCA's Thanksgiving lunch comes to Gibson County Thursday | Events
Some Gibson County residents will enjoy a Thanksgiving lunch courtesy of SWIRCA & More on Thursday.
The organization will serve over 1500 Thanksgiving lunches at 26 meal sites throughout Southwestern Indiana. Vans will be rolling out of their main Kitchen in Evansville in the morning.
All of the 1500 meals are prepared by only give Kitchen staff members who work tirelessly to bake and cook 58 turkeys, 160 gallons of dressing, 200 gallons of green beans, 40 lbs of onions, 40 lbs of celery, 300 lbs of cranberry salad and 368 pies for those in need of a Thanksgiving meal.
Lunch will be served at meal sites in Perry, Warrick, Posey, Spencer, Gibson and Vanderburgh counties including The Ivy Café at the SWIRCA & More Activity Center. Hundreds attend the event each year to enjoy food and fellowship as they celebrate the spirit of the holiday.
“We look forward to preparing our Thanksgiving lunch for the community each year,” said Food Service Operations Coordinator Karen Gipson. “ For some, this is the only Thanksgiving meal they will have. We feel that we have so much to be thankful for and providing this lunch is a way for us to give back by allowing those who have little to be able to afford a holiday meal.”
All lunch proceeds go to the SWIRCA & More Nutrition Program to help fund the 26 SWIRCA & More meal sites to continue to provide daily lunch meals to the Southwestern Indiana region. These meals are offered on a donation basis to the six counties of Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey, Spencer, Gibson and Perry.
