Gibson County sheriff will retire at end of current term | News
Gibson County Sheriff George Ballard will retire at the end of his current term, which will expire December 31, 2014.
“I am in good health and would like to spend time traveling and being with our family,” he said in a news release.
Ballard is currently finishing the second year of his fifth term as sheriff. At the end of the term, Ballard will have been in the position for 20 years.
Ballard began with the department as a deputy on June 16, 1975 and worked his way through the ranks as sergeant, captain and was first elected to the office of sheriff in November of 1982. His first day on the job was in January of 1983. In all Ballard served four teams, starting in 1983, 1987, 1995, 1998 and 2011.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the great citizens of Gibson County as sheriff. I will be 65 in April 2015 and it’s time to retire. I have truly enjoyed my time in law enforcement and serving the citizens.”
