Middle school principal leaving for new post

 

Princeton Community is looking for a new middle school principal.  The Princeton Daily Clarion reports Kevin Spitler has submitted a letter of resignation and will move to northern Indiana for a new position.

Spittler joined Princeton Community as assistant principal and was promoted following the retirement of Carolyn Cochren.

Spitler submitted his resignation after the last school board meeting a week ago and notified staff of his plans to leave.

A second grade teacher at Lowell North Elementary School received a $1,000 surprise on Thursday.

Jill Wright won the Peabody Leaders in Education award for being an outstanding teacher. Wright was nominated for the award and was then pushed to send in a formal application.

Princeton native earns prestigious honor for UE graduating senior

 

Brock Reneer of Princeton has received the University of Evansville's prestigious Guthrie May Outstanding Senior Service Award for the most outstanding senior man.

The award, presented each year at UE's Spring Commencement, recognizes high academic performance, a commitment to service, outstanding leadership, and diverse involvement in campus activities. The winner is chosen by a committee of UE students and faculty.

Reneer, a Princeton Community High School alumnus, graduated from UE with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with majors in finance and economics.

Three Toyota Indiana team members were promoted to positions of assistant manager and above effective March 2013.  They include:

  • Scott Jenkins, Evansville, assistant general manager, Quality Control.

Jenkins has been employed at Toyota since 1998.  Prior to his promotion, he was the manager of Body Weld in TMMI’s West Plant, which produces the Highlander and Sequoia.

Toyota executive to be recognized for excellence in manufacturing

Leah Curry, general manager of Assembly and Conveyance at Toyota Indiana, will be recognized by The Manufacturing Institute, Deloitte, University of Phoenix, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers with a Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Award for her excellence and leadership in manufacturing.  She will join 121 other woman honorees in Washington, D.C., for the recognition ceremony.

“I truly enjoy what I do every day, and I am very humbled to be recognized along with 121 other women,” said Curry.  “When I joined the team at Toyota in 1997, I knew it was a great company, but I never dreamed of the numerous development opportunities that would be available to me.”

Gibson County sheriff will retire at end of current term

Gibson County Sheriff George Ballard will retire at the end of his current term, which will expire December 31, 2014.

“I am in good health and would like to spend time traveling and being with our family,” he said in a news release.

Ballard is currently finishing the second year of his fifth term as sheriff.  At the end of the term, Ballard will have been in the position for 20 years.

Haubstadt teacher gets surprise award

Bart Burke of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School has been named a Peabody Energy Leader in Education for the 2012-13 school year, and awarded $1,000 for his compassion and commitment to students.

As technology coordinator, Burke has helped his school’s technology program to become one of the best in the Evansville diocese. He created a state-of-the-art computer lab with enough computers so that each child from the visiting class can have their own. He continuously improves the schools technology and introduced interactive whiteboards and personal tablets into the classrooms. Burke also uses technology to improve communication at his school. He works with the students to create a school newsletter and a TV station where fourth and fifth grade students broadcast news updates each morning.
