CCNIT opens tonight at OCU

The 2013 Christian College National Invitation Tournament opens Thursday at the Johnson Center on the campus of Oakland City University.

The Mighty Oaks will play at 7 p.m. against Indiana Dabney University.  The winner moves on to play again at 7 p.m. Friday against either Knoxville College or Crowley's Ridge.  The loser moves into the consolation bracket.

The championship game is set for 8 p.m. Saturday.

Hunter safety course open in Gibson County

Conservation officer Kenny Tincher and volunteer instructors will offer the free Indiana Hunter Safety Course next month. The course is a minimum 10 hours which covers topics dealing with hunter responsibility, firearms safety, water safety, at laws, archery, muzzleloader hunting handguns, and wildlife management.

The dates for the course will be Saturday, April 6  and Saturday, April 13   2013 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Attendance each day is required for certification.

The boys basketball season came to a quick end for both Gibson Southern and Princeton Tuesday night at the Boonville Sectional.

The Titans lost a 52-51 heartbreaker to Boonville while Princeton bowed out with a 63-44 loss to Memorial.

Gibson Southern had a seven-point lead with 3:15 left to play, only to see the Pioneers rally to tie and then grab the victory on a free throw by senior Jason Stevens with 1.7 seconds left. 

Gibson Southern finished with an 8-15 record.

Gibson County deer hunters part of record breaking year

Hunters in Gibson County took 1,621 deer in 2012 according to figures released by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources on Thursday. 1,058 of those were antlerless deer and 563 were antlered.

Statewide, hunters took advantage of new equipment regulations and extra hunting dates to harvest a record 136,248 deer during the 2012 season, according to data the DNR gathered from designated check stations and from a recently implemented online and phone reporting system.

The total harvest represented a 6 percent increase over the 2011 season’s harvest and topped the previous record of 134,004 deer set in 2010.

Princeton's Jackie Young and Dakota Morris were named to the 2012-13 All Big 8 Conference Girls Basketball team on Wednesday.

Titan Youth Football 7-on-7 teams give players competitive edge

Titan Youth Football 7-on-7 teams give players competitive edge

Students in the 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grades are signing up for a new 7 on 7 spring league. 

7 on 7 is football without the lineman or the contact.  It is a touch football league focused primarily on passing and pass defense.  

This league will be ran and instructed by the Gibson Southern football staff.  

The coaches say they're excited about the opportunity to work with the boys in the spring and continue to develop the skills needed to win championships.

The Hazleton Ball League will be holding walk-in signups at the Hazleton Town Hall on Fri. Feb. 15 6-8pm and Sat. Feb. 16 from 10am-2pm CST.

Boys and girls can sign up for the following leagues: Tee-ball ages 3 to 5 (children under 3 must have a parent on field with them at all times.) with a fee of $20; Pee-Wee ages 6-9, Little League ages 10-13, and Youth Co-ed softball ages 8-14 with a fee of $25.  Teen Co-ed ages 13-17 with a signup fee of $30. Adult Co-ed ages 17 and up with a fee of $40.
