Antlerless deer season in Gibson County opens December 26

One of the many changes to deer hunting regulations that were implemented this year will take place when the special antlerless season begins Dec. 26.

The purpose of the extra season is to focus the state’s deer management on counties with high deer densities including Gibson County.

The extra season runs for 12 days and will take place only in counties with a bonus antlerless quota of four or more.

Two state winners from Gibson County at Punt, Pass & Kick

Two state winners from Gibson County at Punt, Pass & Kick

Alexis Tucker, of Haubstadt and Joey Bichler of Princeton won their age group in the NFL Punt Pass and Kick State Competition in Indianapolis Sunday, earning the title of state champion.

The event was held before the Colts game against Buffalo. Winners were recognized during the first time out of the third quarter in front of a packed house at Lucas Oil Stadium.

In all, four kids from Gibson County competed and earned their trip to Indy after winning the regional.

Gibson County has not had a state PP&K winner in 17 years but this year, they had two.

Dream season ends for Titans vs. 3A powerhouse

Gibson Southern's best season ever ended with a 59-7 loss to Indianapolis Bishop Chatard in the semi-state Saturday in Fort Branch.

The Titans finish with an 11-3 record. 

Chatard will chase its third straight state championship next weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Thousands of Gibson Southern fans flocked to the school--so many they trucked in extra bleacher seating.

Maybe this one won't be quite as wild. 

Gibson Southern's Titans, regional champs for the first time ever, will host Bishop Chatard on Saturday for the right to advance to Indianapolis and the state Class 3A finals.  Game time for the semi-state title game will be 4:30 p.m. Central time.

The Titans rallied to beat previously undefeated Charlestown 57-49 on Friday night to win the regional.

A season of rebirth for Gibson Southern takes the Titans to the next level this Friday as they get set for a regional showdown with Charlestown.

After four straight losing seasons and only two winning campaigns in the past decade, former Reitz quarterback Nick Hart arrived in Fort Branch with a new game plan and it has succeeded beyond the Titans’ wildest dreams.

Although they lost the conference crown to North Posey, Gibson Southern is the last team standing from the Pocket Athletic Conference.

Scheller wins Indiana High School Heisman

Jordan Scheller is the second straight Gibson Southern student-athlete to win the Wendy’s Indiana Heisman Award.

He was chosen out of more than 45,000 applicants for the prestigious honor.

Scheller will now compete with male athletes from other regions from across the U.S. for a chance to be one of the 12 national finalists who will challenge for the national Heisman award in New York City on December 9.

The winner will be featured on ESPN.
