Remembering Gil Hodges

Born in Princeton and a star at the old Petersburg High School, Gil Hodges is among the Tri-State's most famous athletes.  This time of year, baseball fans remember his heroics.  Hodges was an integral part of the great Brooklyn Dodger teams of the late 1940s and 50s.

Sixty years ago about this time, he was leading the Dodgers to the National League pennant.  They'd face the Yankees in the World Series but lost in seven games.

Gibson Co. 6-year-old is quite a golfer

He's the son of a former athlete and coach but  Peyton Blackard is carving his own niche in the world of athletics--at age six.

Peyton Blackard recently won a United States Golf Association-administered qualifying tournament in  Indianapolis and a spot in the U.S. Kids World Championships Aug. 2-4 at the Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.

He plays other sports, too, but right now golf is where he really shines.  He's been around the game since age 2 and even traveled with his parents to PGA's Memorial tournament in Ohio.
