Tigers, Titans, Trojans Prepare for hoop doubleheaders

It'll be a busy weekend for the boys basketball teams at Princeton, Gibson Southern and Wood Memorial.  All three are back from the holiday break and preparing for two games; one Friday and another contest on Saturday.

The Tigers take on Boonville and Harrison--both on their home floor.  The Titans will host Heritage Hills Friay, then travel to Castle Saturday and the Trojans will be at Pike Central Friday and host Shoals on Saturday.

 Princeton is off to a 6-3 start, Gibson Southern is 5-3 and Wood Memorial 2-8.

The Oakland City University volleyball team presented a check in the amount of $472.60 to the Gibson County Relay for Life on Wednesday. The money was raised at Dig Pink night on October 27. Titans open season Tuesday night

Gibson Southern opens its 2011-12 boys' basketball schedule tonight with a home game against the North Huskies. 

The Titans finished 12-11 last year under coach Travis Farmer, who was in his first season. 

They'll be a young team after losing four seniors.   

Gibson Southern has three home games to start the year; facing Southridge this Saturday and Central on Friday, Dec. 9.

Gibson Southern's Tyler Ziliak is one of two seniors from Indiana names as state winners of the 2011 Wendy's High School Heisman Award.

Ziliak and Skyler Carpenter of Westview High in Shipshewanna will now go on to compete for the national award that celebrates their hard work, dedication and exceptional records in athletics, academics and community leadership.

As the competition narrows for the 2011 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award program, 20 of Indiana’s top scholar-athletes were announced today as State Finalists for the prestigious award. These finalists are now in the running to become State Winners, the next phase of the program as applicants advance to become National Winners.

Traffic stoppage planned for Wednesday on SR 57

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that traffic on State Road 57 (S.R. 57) in Gibson County will be stopped temporarily. 

On Wednesday, November 2 between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. local time, traffic will be stopped near the United Minerals Independence Mine at County Road 350 South. 

Titans travel to Vincennes

Titans travel to Vincennes

It'll be a matchup of two 4-6 football teams Friday night when Gibson Southern takes on Vincennes Lincoln in the Class 3A IHSAA playoffs.

The Titans are coming off a 48-14 win over county rival Princeton in round one while the Alices advanced in nearly identical fashion, 49-14 over Pike Central.

Kickoff time is 6:30 Central time in Vincennes.
