Contractors crews are again ready to hit the pavement on the U.S. Route 41 project in Gibson County. Work has recently been concentrated at the U.S. 41 and S.R. 168 intersection; however crews will begin the milling and paving operation on Monday, August 13.
Starting at 7:00 a.m. local time on the 13th, crews will begin milling the existing asphalt roadway in the north bound passing lane of U.S. 41 at Coal Mine Road in Fort Branch. Crews will progress north through the project to just north of S.R. 64.
The following day, Tuesday, August 14, the paving crew will begin in the same lane and continue to the project’s north termini. Once crews reach the north end of the project, they will move their equipment to the south bound passing lane and move south. Once this part of the operation is complete crews will then begin milling and paving the interior turn lanes and median cross overs. This work is estimated to last through the end of August.
The next phase of work will place crews in the north bound driving lane of U.S. 41 at Coal Mine Road. Crews will progress to the north end of the project and once reaching S.R. 64 will move the operation to the south bound driving lanes. Crews will then move to the outside shoulder, turn lanes and street approaches. This portion of the project is estimated to be complete the end of September.
Once the mainline pavement, cross-overs and turn lanes are complete, crews will then begin milling and paving the ramps at S.R. 64. As the project moves along a more detailed time frame for this work will be given.
Work will continue on the additional turn lanes at S.R. 168 and U.S. 41 and last through the end of August.
The $4.9 million contract was awarded to E & B Paving of Anderson, Indiana earlier this year and includes slip liner installation into drainage pipes under U.S. 41, new traffic signals, turn lane and radii improvements at the intersections of U.S. 41 and S.R. 168, and at U.S. 41 and C.R. 350 South (Toyota), the rebuilding of the exit ramp from U.S. 41 north bound to S.R. 64 east bound, deep patching the roadway in areas, milling the existing roadway and resurfacing the road.
The contract completion date for this project is November 30, weather permitting.
